How to visualize the Antimatter element in the form of digital art
The Matter world is visible, while the Antimatter is invisible. Therefore how to draw out this invisible Antimatter and reflect on a screen as visual form would be crucial to the result of my final work. It will deliver grossly by an abstract form, hence like many pioneers of abstraction are largely spiritual. Also a metaphorical expression using phenomenal stuff – Matter is effective and make sense, hence each Matter is the manifestation of the Antimatter counterpart.
During the trip to Japan in last Christmas holiday I had opportunities to capture matching views to Antimatter element. The most of them were night scenes, it seems the effect of contrast produced by light and dark is effective and looks fantastic. They are:
- The night airport in Paris; while our flight was grading before taking off, I had continuously taking photos through cabin window.
- The sophisticated Christmas illuminations in night town Roppongi, Tokyo.
Abstract images in daylight are:
- The glass and steel ceiling at Telecom Tower in Tokyo.
- Cargo port in Tokyo.
Above all I regarde as the most suitable image of Antimatter metaphorically is still ‘The night view of Manhattan’ in 2003. I made about 10 frames from the same photograph sliced into by using PhotoShop. Then I put it on the system of Stop Motion in iMvie, its speed ratio is about 20 frames per second. Then I inserted in the video made for Matter world ruled by time and space. In the Matter world I expressed my belief that it is the phenomenal world as an illusory passing show. The insertion is supposed to be an interruption from Antimatter world. It looks working according to my intention to me, which title is ‘ Matter and Antimatter are two sides of one coin’. I’m intended to apply the same method for the mentioned latest photograph group respectively. The photographic frames already used for Stop Motion device are B & W prints, while the latest photographs are all colour prints. I have a choice for them to convert to B & W prints, though they will loose some pretty aspect of landscape, particularly Christmas illumination one. It means those pictures are not enough abstract form for Antimatter element. I have to do something for them…, probably using After Effect device. Why the photograph ‘Night view of Manhattan’ works for my purpose is, it was taken under the right circumstance, in stormy snow at night from 86th floor.
Strictly speaking visualization of Antimatter is impossible, because Antimatter is not only invisible but also not able to touch, no form and no weight. It is beyond our sense perception. However about the noise of Universe there is an interesting theory called ‘excess noise’ paralleled to so called white noise. Therefore I used the substitute noise instead of ‘excess noise’ supporting for Stop Motion frames’ part as meaning of Antimatter interruption to Matter world, for a few seconds, and going to use it continually for coming Stop Motion part in Matter world video. I made the substitute noise by recording white noise through TV.

1. In 1965, Penzias and Wilson, two scientists of the famous Bell Labs who were working on satellite communication found that their antenna kept on picking up what they called “excess noise” which simply would not go away, no matter what they did, and it came from all directions in space. Before hand George Gamow realised that the heat of Big Ban was still lingering in the Universe, and should be detectable as a faint radio hiss. (Baba, p.587)
